Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton
Life of a founding father
The rap musical, Hamilton, based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, explores the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, including his role in the American Revolution and the early political history of the United States.
I’m truly touched by the music and lyrics in the musical. My favorite song is ‘Wait for it’. It’s sung by Aaron Burr, the first friend and the last enemy of Hamilton. It shows his own philosophy of life: Keep waiting until you meet the chance. “I’m not standing still, I’m lying in wait.” Moreover, it also shows his internal conflict, jealousy of Hamilton’s control of his own life and thoughts about love, death and life itself. “Life doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and saints, it takes and it takes and it takes.”
Besides the music, the portrayal of characters is also wonderful. Hamilton, an orphan from a forgotten spot in the Caribbean, grew up to be a hero and a scholar with his effort and intelligent brain. As a founding father of America, he kept working for the young nation and spent almost his whole life on the career of it. However, he also had disadvantages. Hamilton couldn’t help himself and betrayed his wife, this led him to failure. His wife, Eliza Schuyler, was also a great character. Her husband betrayed her, her son died then her husband died too. However, Eliza never gave up. She chose to live independently and even did many things to tell Hamilton’s story after he died.
In conclusion, Hamilton is really a great musical. I would like to recommend it to everyone of you.
